Butterfly Watercolor

Monday, February 16, 2009

This time I decided to try using one of my own photos to paint. The sunflower was actually from a how-to book that came with the set. The painting below is from a picture that we took during our visit to a butterfly farm in St. Maarten a couple years ago. Other than the really big moth that creeped Eric out, it was a super cool place and I miss it! They gave us some fruit juice to drink, but told us if we dipped a finger in the fruit juice and held it out next to a butterfly it would land on it. Of course Eric got a couple to land on him and he dubbed himself the “butterfly whisperer”.

5 Months and 17 Comps Later…

… we finally launched the new longhollow.com today! After months of design comps (100% Lauren, by the way) and revisions, and hundreds of hours of new code (ruby, javascript, xhtml and css), I’m happy to finally be able to launch this thing.

New Long Hollow Site

My goal was to make it easier to use/nicer to look at and built it with future technologies in mind. Take a look and leave me some constructive feedback :-)

Sunflower Watercolor

This is my first attempt at watercoloring. I had a cheap set when I was younger, but only recently got the urge to try it again (got a set from Rick and Paula for Christmas). I’m not very pleased with the background being so blotchy and the leaves don’t seem right - I think it will take me a while to figure out paint to water ratios and what it will turn out looking like, but it was a lot of fun!
