The Rock-afire Explosion

When I was a wee lad, nary a year went by when my family and I didn’t visit Showbiz Pizza at least a few times (this was long before it was changed to Chuck E. Cheese and turned into just a pizza parlor with an arcade built in). Showbiz was a “special occasion place,” reserved for Straight-As and birthday parties; I remember it being paradise for my fragile, seven-year-old mind.
If my brain wasn’t initially blown by an hour of Skee-Ball, a fist-full of prize tickets and an unhealthy amount of high fructose corn syrup, we would settle down into the auditorium to rock out to the smooth sounds of the Rock-afire Explosion (a poorly constructed animatronic band that performed parodies of popular songs if my memory serves me correctly). Although I enjoyed this more as my birthday’s progressed, I remember that the dim lights combined with the large gorilla’s glowing red eyes used to scare the daylights out of me.
I stumbled on a link today about a man who has begun collecting the now defunct robots and assembling him in his garage (as his budget allows of course). After a little more research, I discovered that there is apparently a large group of people dedicated to buying complete sets of the entire robot band and reprogramming them to perform modern songs… craziness.
Check out the cover of “Lithium” by Evanescence below and tell me you’re not just a little bit freaked out. Also, does anyone remember that cheerleader mouse being that crazy looking? Wow.

This image is totally stupid, but makes me laugh every time I look at it. That is all.
