Last Week in LOST…

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

I’m still trying to catch up with all sorts of stuff after being gone for vacation for a week, but I had to take time to post up an episode review for last week’s killer episode of LOST. I don’t know about you guys, but for me that was one of the best episodes since sometime in Season 2.

Check out my thoughts after the jump below. Beware of spoilers, and definitely don’t read if you’re not caught up with this season yet.

Yay Vacation…Boo Reality…

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

Wellp…we’re back home from a great vacation. It obviously didn’t last long enough, but we definitely got the most out of it. We spent a couple afternoons in Seaside, shopped a little (Eric got some awesome vintage robots for our office), ate a LOT (Eric and Dave grilled several times), and spent some good time with my family. The water was still a little chilly, but the outside temperature averaged 75 and was perfect for reading on the beach or walking through Seaside.

Spotlight on Creation

Monday, April 14, 2008

It seems like the old Creationism vs. Darwinism debate has been getting a lot of time in the spotlight recently. I’m going to guess that a lot of the renewed interest on the subject stems from the popular books out on the subject right now (on both sides of the fence). While clicking around on Amazon this morning, I noticed that 4 out of the 5 top selling books are dealing with spiritual issues and the big questions everyone asks.

For whatever reason, the whole creation vs. evolution debate has never been a stumbling block to my faith; it has always seemed to me that life beginning and evolving by accident takes more faith than believing that God created us skillfully and purposefully (a good read related to this topic is The Case for a Creator by Lee Strobel). If you spend any time on a college campus, or even most internet discussion groups these days, you’ll find that the voice of the Darwinism tries to drown out any reasonable discussion to the contrary.

I’ve been hearing some buzz about an interesting documentary making it to theaters this month called Expelled. It’s created by Ben Stein of The Wonder Years/Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and he’s taking a look at a lot of the scholarly snobbery that’s trying to exalt Darwinism from theory straight to fact. Check out the trailer below… I think it looks pretty interesting.

Birthday Thoughts

Sunday, April 13, 2008

I turned a quarter of a century old today. More than any other birthday in recent memory, I’ve been very reflective today. I don’t know if it’s the milestone age, or just where I’m at in life, but things just seem a little surreal. It’s odd to think of all of these memories that seem just like yesterday, which are really half of my life ago now.

About to blow out the candles on my awesome birthday cake from Nana.

Out of all of the various birthday phone calls and festivities that went on today (thank you all very much - I have the best friends and family in the world), probably the most meaningful to me was a phone call from my cousin Daniel. When we were little Daniel and I were extremely close… it’s hard for me to remember a birthday in my childhood where we weren’t unwrapping my gifts and playing with/breaking them moments later. After some family-related issues in our very early teens, we didn’t see much of each other over the last 12 years.

He called me out of the blue tonight just to wish me a happy birthday, and it really meant the world to me. There’s just something about hearing from a distant childhood friend that just takes you back to what matters.

Thanks again for a great birthday everyone. I hate to quote Michael Scott in such a serious note, but “my heart is very full at this moment.”

Googly Eyes Gardener

I haven’t figured out why, but this clip cracks me up. Aside from it being Christopher Walken, the idea that plants are out to get you is hilarious to me. BTW - Hulu is awesome!

DeLorean Spotting

Monday, April 7, 2008

I was out running work-related errands today in Hendersonville, and stumbled upon a vintage DeLorean. Sadly, Marty McFly was no where to be found.
