Jovie’s Room

Monday, April 5, 2010

I’ve promised (for months now) to post pictures of the baby’s room. The rocker is actually my grandfather’s (Dad’s dad) so it has a lot of sentimental value. And, yes, those are real birch trees. I finally feel like most everything is in it’s place, sans baby of course.

Enjoy the pictures! Click to enlarge the photos…

Any Takers?

Friday, August 21, 2009

I’m cleaning out my guest bedroom closet and realize there’s a few things we can live without. Our bedding from our last house is still packed up in the original bag and has sat there for over a year. We got it from Kohls for between $100-150. Does anyone need a king size bed outfit? It’s a silvery tan-ish type color with four shams and a couple of pillows (one not pictured). Here’s a picture of our bedroom in the last house. Let me know if you could use it and you can have it! I remember washing it before I packed it up and it’s in pretty good shape.

Oh, and I’m in a cleaning mood, so I may end up posting something else :)

We’ve Got the Fever…

Saturday, April 18, 2009

And no, not baby fever. But you aren’t the first to ask. We had a great day outside yesterday. I worked until 11 or so and Eric and I started in on the garage. It was a pretty big task, but we were finished by 3. And now we have everything organized, PLUS we can fit both cars in the garage! How lame is it that it’s been a year and we’ve just now gotten to it?! By the way - if you’re planning on cleaning your garage and you have boxes and junk to move, WEAR GLOVES. Eric found a black widow - granted it was dead, but still quite creepy to think it was living in our garage.

After we finished with the garage we went to Long Hollow Nursery and picked out some flowers to plant around the house. I was so excited my May Night flowers weren’t dead - they came back from last year after I chopped them off thinking they were hopeless. The rest of the flowers below are ones we planted. I like to think of this as the first round of spring. The next will be our roses, day lillies, crape myrtles and irises.

Flowers in the pots on the front porch - May Night, Pansies, and cali-somethings

Pot of flowers on the patio table - orange Marigolds...and something yellow :)

Our little garden friend. He sits in the iris bed along the holly bushes.

Christmas Is Close

Monday, December 1, 2008

Eric and I had a great Thanksgiving break. Eric installed track lighting in the kitchen, three dimmer switches and is in the process of painting the guest bedroom. I installed a new kitchen faucet and some silver wall plates in the kitchen (I got the better end of the deal). We spent Thanksgiving day with Nana, Rick and Paula. The food was great and I had forgotten how much fun yahtzee is! We even had time to decorate the house for Christmas. Here’s a few photos for you to enjoy.

My Birthday Gift

Thursday, August 21, 2008

I may have told some of you that Eric got me a new sewing machine for my birthday. Since then I’ve created 3 pillow covers (one for practice). So I figured I’d share my progress. If I didn’t have to work to help put food on the table, I would sew full-time for fun! I think I’m going to move on to more challenging projects once I’ve finished our living room pillows. Also, just to update you on house stuff, Eric’s painted two bathrooms recently - they both look good. We’ll post pictures at some point. Last Saturday the rest of our living room furniture arrived and it’s starting to look like a finished room - YAY!

Patio Progress

Tuesday, June 3, 2008

I know, I know… I haven’t posted anything in about a month. It turns out that moving into a new place during the biggest part of your work year combined with maintaining a freelance company on the side can be kind of a pain.

As Lauren mentioned in her previous post, we’ve been doing a ton of work on the house. We’ve got the place about 80% painted (still have the guest room, bath, and half-bath to go), and are in the process of getting furniture where it’s supposed to be and finishing the office so we can move on to other rooms. I’ve learned quite a bit about dry wall anchors and hanging curtain rods over the past few weeks (Jenny and Dave blessed me with a laser level for my birthday that has been a lifesaver).

To take a break from the inside of the house, Lauren and I decided to go ahead and get a patio poured so we could enjoy it for the summer. Our original plan was to purchase pavers and do everything ourselves, but upon realizing how much other stuff we have going on we decided to go a different direction. Elizabeth, one of our neighbors, had a stamped and stained concrete patio poured for their house, which looks very cool, so we decided to go with that.

We broke ground on everything on Sunday, and things have been moving pretty quickly from that point (it took a little while to get a start date from the contractor, but he’s been good so far otherwise). Check out the progress below; please note that the color is not at all what it will look like once it’s stained and sealed.

The framing after they dug up the sod on Sunday.

The poured and stamped concrete, not yet sealed (which brings out the color - Smoke and Cape Cod Grey)

A detailed view of the stamped pattern - Majestic Ashlar - it looks like a bunch of slate tiles.

Check back soon for the finished product. Lauren gave me the go ahead to finally get a gas grill (I’ve wanted one for years… I love to grill) once the patio is complete, so I can’t wait. Be prepared to be invited over to swim and grill out a lot this summer :-)
